8th Grade Summer Reading Assignment

During the course of the summer, you need to read one or more AR books to gain AR points* that will be converted into your first reading grade of the 8th grade year.  You will need to take the quiz or quizzes and bring Ms. Harkay your TOPS report(s).  Look at the chart to see how many points you need to get a particular grade.  Note that the maximum you can get for this first reading grade is 110 points out of 100.  In other words, you can earn up to 10 extra credit points.

Examples for standard 8th Grade English

  1.  You read only one AR book and earn 7 AR points.  Your grade in MMS will be 90 out of 100 possible points.
  2.  You read one AR book and earn 4 points.  You read a second AR book and earn 5 points.
    Your grade in MMS will be 101 out of 100 possible points.

Examples for challenge 8th Grade English

  1.  You read only one AR book and earn 7 points.  Your grade in MMS will be 70 out of 100.
  2.  You read one AR book and earn 6 points.  You read a second AR book and earn 7 points.
    Your grade in MMS will be 103 out of 100 points.

 

Self-Selected Reading Assignments for 8th Grade Standard

You will be asked to read self-selected AR books this summer and periodically throughout your 8th grade year.  The number of points you earn for a book will be translated into the grade that will go into MMS.  If you earn more than 8 points for a single book, you will be getting extra credit.
