In the Fall of 2018 a team of 5 Oxbow students and 2 adults attended the Getting to ‘Y’ training to look at results of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) alongside teams from 10 other VT schools. This student leadership initiative is a collaborative effort of Up for Learning and the VT Dept of Health. This training helped students learn the process for and benefits of analyzing data, facilitation of student and community dialogue events, and developed a plan to further this work in their school and community. The goal of this process is for student leaders to help strengthen their school and community while increasing education and improving health and well-being of students.
The next step is the Community Dialogue Event February 28, 2019, 6:00-7:30pm, where all community members are invited to hear from students the strengths and concerns identified and help brainstorm ways to facilitate change.
